The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) is a program by the Ministry of Education (MoE). The program's goal is to encourage the culture of innovation and create a start-up ecosystem in education institutions

The IIC program is collaboration between the Ministry of Education (MoE's) Innovation Cell (MIC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). The IIC's main goal is to encourage and nurture young students in activities such as pre-incubation, incubation, and making startups.

The IIC establishes a network of IICs across selected HEIs to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. The IIC supports student innovators by offering multiple levels of support

Central to the IIC's mission is the active engagement of a diverse body of stakeholders:

Faculty: Equipping educators with the tools and resources to guide and mentor budding innovators

  • Students: Providing a platform for nurturing creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurial aspirations.
  • Staff: Encouraging and facilitating participation in initiatives that promote a culture of innovation within the institution.
  • Key areas of focus for IICs encompass:
    • Ideation workshops: Stimulating the generation of novel ideas for products, services, and processes
    • Problem-solving challenges: Tackling real-world issues through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions.
    • Proof-of-concept development: Supporting the transformation of promising ideas into tangible prototypes
    • Design thinking training: Equipping participants with methodologies for developing user-centric solutions
    • Intellectual property rights (IPR) awareness: Educating and guiding individuals on protecting their innovative creations.
    • Project management skills development: Providing the necessary know-how to effectively manage innovation projects.

The impact of IICs stretches far beyond the confines of individual institutions, contributing significantly to:

    • A flourishing national innovation ecosystem: Nurturing talent and fostering new ventures that contribute to India's economic and social progress.
    • Enhanced employability prospects for graduates: Equipping students with the skills and mindset sought after by the modern workforce
    • Bridging the gap between academics and industry: Facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange between institutions and businesses.

In essence, the IIC serves as a vital catalyst for change within the Indian higher education system, empowering individuals and institutions to become drivers of innovation and progress.
