About the Department

To meet the challenges of present day dynamic business environment, the 3-years’ Degree programme in B.Com (Hons) offers a job-oriented integrated package of courses with substantial Information Technology components, opportunities for summer training and project work. The Department also offers B.com Degree Programme, which suits students who desire to pursue vocational courses and/or extra-curricular activities simultaneously with the said programme.

The Commerce Department is the biggest department of Shyam Lal College with a strength of more than eleven hundred students and thirty  five faculty members teaching B.Com (Hons.) and B.com (Prog) courses. The Department also has well qualified faculty . Many of the said teachers have been associated with Post Graduate teaching at the University of Delhi, IGNOU & other Professional Courses.

The Commerce Department aims at not just imparting knowledge restricted to the syllabi but also enhancing its value by various co- curricular activities like Seminars and Discussions within and outside class rooms. The teachers share their practical knowledge with students in various fields related to accounting, finance, taxation, law, stock market and consumer matters. The Department organizes PAN Card camp every year to enable students to get the card at a nominal cost. Commerce students are also given practical knowledge of Filing Income Tax Returns through Income Tax Department’s E-filing portal.
